Net Zero and Zero-Carbon Trails
In early 2025 Ayrshire Rural and Islands Ambitions (ARIA) provided a funding contribution towards our project of expanding our renewables on site. Having completed carbon literacy training, we decided there was even more that we could do in our drive towards providing carbon neutral or even carbon negative stays with us at little peru. This funding was instrumental in making changes which are legacy changes for our business and the benefits of these will be immeasurable for us and our customers in the long term. We are forever grateful for the assistance, belief and support from ARIA.
01
Renewable Energy

One of the first goals for the project was to further grow our solar renewable energy solution. Our solar panel array was expanded from 3.5kW to 7.5kW,
The panels are in a perfect unobstructed, south-facing site. To accommodate these changes the roofing on our three outbuildings (field shelter, hay barn and feed shed) was replaced and the roofing substructure strenghtened to support this added weight.
02
More Renewable Energy!
Alongside expanding our solar panels on-site, it was the perfect opportunity to grow our battery storage too. Our battery storage has now expanded from 11kW to 16.5kW. This means that throughout the day when our solar panels generate more energy than our guests consume this energy can be stored on the batteries for later when it is needed. The size of our renewable system should now almost entirely cover the energy supply needs of our guests.

03
Zero Carbon Trails

We installed two large A0 aluminum signs in our bike shed recommending four excellent local walks and four amazing cycles, all leaving and returning to little peru. This decision aligns with our vision of green transport and enjoying nature and the outdoors. We are very passionate about our guests being able to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside and to be able to do this while being mindful of our carbon footprint. We are based right by the side of National Cycle Route 7 and on the edge of Galloway Darks Skies Park.
